Nestled in the Mahoning Valley of Carbon County, Pennsylvania, Circa 1898 breathes new life into the historic New Mahoning Hotel. Originally built in 1898 by Thomas Beltz, the hotel served as a lively hub for travelers, railroad tycoons, and locals alike, offering fine dining, a stagecoach stop, and even a speakeasy during Prohibition. This photo is the earliest we've found, and it captures the spirit of this remarkable landmark.
Before its current incarnation, the site was home to earlier taverns and establishments that catered to traders and settlers, tracing back to ancient Native American paths. The current building also harbors tales of paranormal activity, with previous owner, the clairvoyant Helen Broney, hosting séances and contributing to its mystique.
During renovations, we strove to honor the building's unique character and storied past, preserving its architectural details and historical integrity wherever possible. Today, Circa 1898 celebrates its heritage while offering a modern yet timeless dining experience, weaving together local history, fine cuisine, and the charm of a bygone era.
